The establishment of Cleft-Children International in Switzerland in 2000 was a foundation stone for a multi-national aid initiative. The CCI acts as umbrella organisation and control group, supporting the work of national organisations. On a national level, public information and fund raising campaigns are carried out. Cleft-Children International achieves support by independent sustaining organisations.
Patients' medical histories are entered online directly by the cleft centres into a web database. These data are then processed by CCI. This database enables the best-possible medical and administrative controlling and enables smooth collaboration between CCI, based in Zurich, and the remote cleft centres.
