Partnership with Romania:
Timisoara and Cluj-Napoca
In Romania, CCI provides support for the University Hospital Timisoara and the University Hospital Cluj-Napoca. Prof. Dr. Florian Zeilhofer, Director of the Clinic for Oral- and Maxillofacial Surgery at Basel University Hospital also used to provide support to the team in Cluj by providing training for local doctors. Assistants from Cluj will be coming to Basel for several months for specific training as part of an exchange programme.
CCI has been working together with Romania and the University of Timisoara since 2005. From Professor Emil Urtila's team, surgeon Dr. Paraschivescu was sent to Hyderabad in India to gain further experience. Under the guise of Prof. Dr. Gosla Reddy, he was given instruction in the many complex techniques of cleft surgery. This is an example of CCI facilitating the transfer of knowledge between India and Romania. The first cleft centre of the Cleft-Children International Professor Hermann Sailer Foundation was inaugurated in March 2006.
