Partnership with India:
Mangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai

So far our foundation has established four “centres of excellence” in India. In Mangalore with Professor Krishna Shama Rao [image 1]; in Hyderabad with Professor Gosla Reddy [image 2]; and in Chennai (Madras) with Professor Manikandhan [image 3]. A fourth centre was opened under the medical supervision of Dr. Chetana Kumar [image 4] in Mumbai (Bombay) in 2004. It was named “The Ustinov Cleft-Centre Bombay” in honour of Sir Peter Ustinov. The Peter Ustinov Foundation has supported our foundation for many years. Sir Peter Ustinov took a life-long personal interest in combating prejudices such as those cleft children are forced to face.

Thanks to Professor Sailer's initial work, as of today more than 10,000 surgeries have been accomplished in India. Thanks to wide range of support intended to help people help themselves, all four cleft centres have managed to attain high standards of quality in facial surgery recognised world-wide. Patient histories, medical findings, X-rays, jaw casts and pre- and post-operative photos are documented in a medical database locally before being managed and checked by the CCI in Zurich.
